Bringing people together through conversation, connection and shared experience
The Travelling Postbox
Walking the length of England to get people talking about loneliness.
This September, our founder, Stu Skinner MBE, is walking more than 600 miles from Gretna Green to his home on the Jurassic Coast, carrying a 26kg Royal Mail postbox on his back.
Nobody talks about loneliness. A postbox on someone's back opens people up, while walking side by side creates space for honest conversations and meaningful connection.
Join Stu for an hour, a day or a few miles. Come as you are. Everyone is welcome.
Postcards from the Peaks
A film about the weight of loneliness, and what happens when you don't carry it alone.

The Head Outside Awards
The awards for people changing lives through the outdoors.
The Head Outside Awards were created to celebrate the people making a genuine difference through nature and the outdoors, and to bring their stories to a wider audience.
The Awards are free to enter, free to attend and open to everyone. They have now run four times, most recently as part of Kendal Mountain Festival.
We’re taking 2026 to build the funding and partnerships needed for their next chapter. We’ll announce the return of the Head Outside Awards as soon as we can. Please reach out if you would like to help make the awards happen next year
Jurassic Coast Film Festival
A new festival of adventure, the outdoors and mental health. Films about being human. Planned for Weymouth on the Jurassic Coast, November 2027.
Part of our wider mission: sharing stories that bring people together and help them feel less alone.
The festival will also become the new home of the Head Outside Awards if we are able to make it a reality.
We're actively seeking sponsors and funding to make it happen.
Help keep us going
Head Outside is powered by volunteers, with much of the work funded personally by our founder and team.
Together, we've delivered four years of the Head Outside Awards, carried a postbox to the highest point of all 15 UK National Parks, made a film, led walks, talks and workshops, and sent more than 1,000 handwritten postcards to people who needed to know someone was thinking of them.
Every donation goes directly into making this work happen, and helping us reach whoever might need us next.
